![]() I’ll get my one qualm out of the way first. It’s safe to say I had high hopes for this restaurant and for the most part it succeeded. In 2009, Zazu won a coveted Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for its impressive wine cellar, which is shaped in a planetarium like cylinder that might be the best looking, at from the inside, cellar I’ve seen anywhere. Since opening in 2007, the restaurant has already been named one of Quito’s three best restaurants by LAN airlines and was awarded a Five Star Diamond Award by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences. Hope you improve the service as it makes a huge difference in the customer experience.Zazu is the most renowned of the restaurants with Peruvian chefs to have opened in Quito, Ecuador in the past three years. Without a doubt it is a place I would never recommend and that I would never go back. After giving them a math class about how they needed to charge a bill they refund us the $25. At the end after we got the check and pay we realized they charged us extra $25 claiming that the taxes needed to be added twice as we pay with two cards which is crazy. It is important to say that there were only two tables in the restaurant with two customers each so we couldn’t understand the lack of customer service. The lights in the restaurant were bad, the music was almost mute as we could hear the staff talking and watching a football match in the kitchen. We decided to take the rest to go as the atmosphere was not welcoming. At this point we had spent almost 2 hours and a half in the restaurant. The first and second were good but the rest took almost 2 hours for us to get to the course number 5. We decided to stay with the tasting menu because the food was already there, but believe me that it was a huge mistake. After getting our drinks (which were good not gonna lie) the staff brought food as they thought we were getting the tasting menu without even asking what we wanted. We arrived there with my friend and it took almost 15 minutes for us to get acknowledged by the staff. I went there with really high hopes and believe me it was nothing of what i was expecting. Next time I am in town I will go there to listen to the band. View and the band like that this place should be packed. One dog had the paws on the lap of a diner. Some people we were feeding from their plates. But begging from diners I am not a fan of. Sitting on the front seat by the band is the cutest thing. Not sure how & what to say about the dog situation in the restaurant. Kitchen staff is hanging around with their dirty aprons in the dining area and chatting away. I would have dinner somewhere else and go there around 9pm for drinks. Most of the restaurants on that block has a great view. On a Thursday night got there around 7.30 Pm. I am critical about simple things that they can correct easily. I am a multi restaurant owner from New York City.
